LASIK: 3 simple steps

1.The first step is to create a thin layer, or “flap”, under which the Laser Vision Correction is to be applied. Creating the “flap” can be accomplished using either a precise instrument called a microkeratome, or can be created using a femtosecond laser.

2. The second step is to carefully fold the “flap” over and allow the inner layer of the cornea to be visible so that the laser can treat the area. For most patients the actual application of the Wavelight Allegretto Wave® Eye -Q Excimer Laser only takes 2-15 seconds, depending on the amount of correction necessary.

3. The third step is to gently smooth over the “flap” back into its original position.

The cornea is a remarkable tissue that has a natural bonding quality so that the "flap" adheres back to the cornea without the need for sutures or stitches. This makes the healing and visual recover process very quick for most patients.
